About this programme
If you're interested in understanding both how the law works and why people commit crime, this degree brings the two together in a way that directly prepares you for real careers. You'll study the foundations of English law, including contracts, criminal law, public law. In tandem, you will also explore key areas of criminology, including the causes of crime, justice systems, and how society responds to offending. This means you graduate with both legal knowledge and a broader understanding of crime and justice in the real world. The course provided me with an excellent understanding of the theory and practice that underpins many of the agencies within the criminal justice system and helped me to develop the skills required to be an academic. You may also develop these skills through applied legal activities such as client simulations, drafting legal documents, advocacy, presentations, mooting, and negotiation. By the end of the course, you’ll be able to analyse complex problems, build arguments, and make informed decisions. These skills are valuable in many career fields. A variety of assessment methods are used to allow you to demonstrate the skills and knowledge you have gained on the course. Some methods used, include written assignments, which may be in the form of an essay, an in-depth case study, a reflective piece, or more practically orientated writing such as a client advice letter. You may also be assessed through mooting, individual and group presentations, negotiations, in-class activities, and online quizzes. Some modules also make use of open-book exams
