About this programme
Education at RDP is hands‑on from the start. Instead of waiting until later years to explore what teaching looks like, you’ll take five education courses in your first year and begin observing real classrooms right away. You’ll learn how children and youth think, what motivates them and how to create learning environments where every student feels included and supported. Through interactive activities, micro‑teaching opportunities, designing lesson materials and working closely with your peers, you’ll develop practical skills that prepare you for your future practicum placements. These experiences help you understand how to turn educational theory into real‑world teaching, a key expectation for Alberta teachers. With ongoing field experiences, dedicated mentorship from instructors who’ve all taught in K–12 classrooms, and a full‑term practicum in your final year, you’ll graduate ready to create meaningful, engaging learning for today’s Alberta classrooms. After Year One, you’ll join a specialization in Early Years (K–4) , Middle Years (5–9) , or Secondary (10–12) . All students choose a teachable minor , and Secondary students also choose a teachable major to deepen your subject expertise. For future teachers who want to shape the very beginning of a child’s learning journey. In this specialization, you’ll focus on how children learn during their most formative years. You’ll explore child development, literacy and numeracy foundations, inclusive learning environments and the ways young learners build confidence and curiosity.
