About this programme

Take up to 60 credits of your Bachelor of Education at Red Deer Polytechnic before transferring to another institution to complete your degree. You’ll take the same Year 1 education and foundational courses offered in RDP’s four‑year Bachelor of Education , giving you a strong start no matter where you plan to finish your program. RDP offers a wide selection of transferable non-Education courses that can support your teachable subject majors and minors. At RDP, you’ll explore how children and youth learn, build essential teaching skills and participate in your first field experience, where you’ll observe real K–12 classrooms and begin connecting theory to practice. Unlike many institutions that offer only 2-3 education courses early on, RDP provides five education courses in Year 1 , giving you a strong practical and theoretical foundation before you transfer into a degree program, either at RDP or elsewhere. You’ll also take ' The Teaching Profession' course, which includes classroom observation in local schools so you can experience K-12 education firsthand. And you’ll learn from faculty who have real K-12 teaching experience and hold graduate degrees, ensuring you receive strong mentorship before transferring or continuing into our degree program. RDP offers smaller class sizes and a supportive environment to help set you up for success for future studies. Students will have the opportunity to observe in a variety of classrooms as part of the first-year EDUC 1500 course, 'The Teaching Profession'.
