On this page
On 23 September 2026 Azerbaijan and Bangladesh signed a visa exemption agreement. It covers holders of diplomatic, official and service passports only. Ordinary passports are not covered 1.
Where to apply
The Azerbaijani embassy in New Delhi takes visa applications in person. It says "Visa applicants must apply for a visa in person at the Embassy." It accepts only new applications filed through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs visa application portal, visaapplication.mfa.gov.az, and does not accept documents by post or courier company 2. The consular section works Tuesday and Friday: submission 10:00 to 12:00 and collection 15:00 to 17:00 2. The embassy site has a section on Azerbaijan-Bangladesh relations, but the page does not say that Bangladeshi applicants must use this embassy 2.
The embassy checks the file. The accuracy check and the final opinion come from the relevant executive authority and go back to the mission 3.
The education visa and the residence permit
The Migration Code (Article 27) provides a science and education visa. It is issued on the application of a government body, research institution or education institution registered in Azerbaijan, for a foreigner entering to enrol in an education institution. The stay is up to 90 days. If your own country is not financing the study, you must show enough funds for education and living costs 5.
After arrival, full-time students need a temporary residence permit from the State Migration Service (Article 45.1.9). Permits are generally issued for up to 1 year and can be extended for periods of up to 2 years. Extension requests go in at least 30 days before expiry 6.
Documents, fees and time
Under Article 36.1 of the Migration Code, a visa application needs 5:
- the application form
- a passport valid at least 3 months beyond the visa expiry, with copies of the main pages
- two colour 3 x 4 cm biometric photos
- a copy of medical insurance where the inviting party does not cover medical services
- proof of payment of the state duty
The state fee is USD 20 for a single-entry visa, USD 350 for multiple entry and USD 20 for transit 7. It is not returned if the visa is refused 2.
The embassy says the process generally takes 5 to 10 working days 2. The ministry's rules say an application is considered no later than fifteen days from the date of application, or two working days in listed urgent cases 3. A refusal or cancellation follows the cases in article 16.1 of the Migration Code; the page does not list the grounds 3.
E-visas
A standard e-visa is issued within 3 working days and an urgent one within 3 hours, and e-visas are valid for 30 days. This applies to eligible nationalities only 4. The embassy cannot issue, change or approve e-visas. Questions go to info@evisa.gov.az 4.
If you applied for an e-visa, use the status check on this page.
