China student visa in Dhaka: X1 and X2, the online review and what each message means
Last checked against official sources on
For a China visa you check the "preliminary review" status online first. Only after the review is complete do you take your passport to the visa centre in Dhaka 1. That review status is not the final visa decision 1.
Where to apply
You apply online through the Chinese Visa Application Service Center website. Once the preliminary review is approved, you submit your passport and documents in person at the Visa Center in Dhaka. No appointment is needed. Fingerprints may be required, and some groups are exempt 1.
The Visa Center is on the 3rd Floor, Praasad Trade Center, 6 Kemal Ataturk Avenue, Banani, Dhaka. Submission and payment are 9:00 am to 3:00 pm, and collection is 9:00 am to 4:00 pm, Sunday to Thursday 2. The decision is made by the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in Dhaka, which also holds any interviews 2.
The Embassy says it has not authorised any agency as an exclusive provider and cannot manage orders under an applicant's account. Complaints go to dhaka@csm.mfa.gov.cn 2.
X1 and X2
An X1 visa is for study in China of more than 180 days. An X2 visa is for study of 180 days or fewer 1. The Embassy page lists documents for X1 only 1:
- University students: the Confirmation Form for Study in China (Form JW201 or JW202) and the original admission letter. If you have a scholarship, provide proof.
- Self-funded students: a bank statement showing at least 2,500 USD for each year of study in China.
- Primary and secondary students: the confirmation form for elementary-stage students.
The four review messages
You track the review by logging in with the username and password you registered on the Visa Center website 1. The Embassy explains these messages 1:
- "To be modified": the application needs corrections. Log in, fix it and resubmit.
- "Supplementary documents to be provided": the review needs more documents. Provide them as the account instructs.
- "Video interview to be scheduled": you need an interview with the Embassy. Schedule it and attend the in-person interview at the Embassy at the appointed time.
- "Online review completed": go to the Visa Center in Dhaka with your passport and documents.
Timing and fees
The preliminary online review result usually comes within one working day of submitting online. This is from a page dated 12 September 2025 1.
The Embassy's fee page, dated 1 June 2025 and covering all visa types, gives regular service as 4 working days and express as 3 working days, with an extra 2,700 taka per visa for express. It says some applications may take longer 3. For a Bangladeshi passport, single entry, the table shows 2400 (regular), 5100 (express) and 6400 (urgent). The page gives no currency label for those figures. Payment is by card only 3.
