Japan student visa from Dhaka: apply through VFS, 7 working days
Last checked against official sources on
On this page
The Embassy of Japan in Dhaka no longer accepts visa applications directly. From 3 November 2024 it has entrusted VFS Global with facilitating them 1. The Embassy of Japan in Bangladesh, Dhaka, still decides the visa 1.
Fees
VFS Global's Japan page for Bangladesh says "For Bangladeshi Nationality - NO Visa Fees" 4. That line is about the visa fee. It does not mention any VFS service charge, so ask VFS before you pay or book.
Time
The embassy gives a standard time of 7 working days if the application is complete, counted from submission to VFS Global to the earliest issuance 2. An incomplete application takes longer, and cases that need a detailed document examination may take several months 2. Japan's embassy does not publish a student-specific time or a tracking tool on the pages used here.
What the embassy asks students for
The embassy lists two student visas: College/University, and Japanese Language School 3. Both are based on a Certificate of Eligibility (COE), except that Japanese Government Scholarship awardees do not need one on the College/University list 3. Documents on the lists include 3:
- the application form, a valid passport with a photocopy, an old passport if you have one, and one photo (2 x 1.4 inch)
- the COE
- an acceptance letter from a Japanese institute, or for the language school an admission certificate from the school
- original academic certificates and registration cards, and SSC and HSC mark sheets for language-school applicants
- for the language school, a bank statement for 6 months and a tax certificate with a paid-amount receipt for 3 years from your financial supporter
Keep your VFS Global submission paperwork at hand when you use the status check above.
