India student visa from Bangladesh: Dhaka document list, e-Student visa and status check
Last checked against official sources on
On this page
The official Indian e-Visa page lists Bangladesh among the eligible nationalities and includes the e-Student Visa (e-S V) among its categories 2. It is valid for one year from the grant of the Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA), with multiple entry 2. The page says to recheck eligibility on the portal 2. The High Commission of India in Dhaka also publishes a category-wise document list for regular visas, which includes a student visa section 1.
e-Student visa documents
The e-Visa page lists these for e-Student 2:
- the bio page of your passport
- a letter of admission from a recognised Indian institution, showing the course duration
- a parent or guardian support letter with a bank guarantee, or six months of bank statements
- for medical or paramedical courses, a no-objection certificate from the Health Ministry
The e-Visa fee is country specific plus 3 percent bank charges 2. It is non-refundable whether the ETA is granted or rejected, and it must be paid at least 4 days before travel. The e-Visa cannot be extended or converted to another visa type 2.
Regular student visa documents
The Dhaka High Commission document list for a student visa includes 1:
- an original passport valid at least six months from the application date with at least two blank pages, plus old passports
- one recent 2x2 colour photo on a white background
- a copy of your National ID card or birth certificate
- proof of residence, such as a utility bill not older than six months
- proof of financial soundness, for example a foreign-currency endorsement of US$150, a bank statement, or a travel card copy
- a copy of the student ID card from the institution
- a bonafide (admission) letter from a government or government-approved institution in India
- bank solvency papers from the guarantor
How long it takes
The official portal gives one processing statement: a minimum of three working days to process the case and issue a visa, depending on nationality and excluding special cases 3. It is a global figure. No Dhaka-specific student visa time was found.
Checking your status
Indian Visa Online has a "Check your Visa Status" tab on the e-Visa page. The page says applicants can track online and that the ETA status shows as "GRANTED" before travel 2. The status enquiry page is 4.
The official status enquiry page asks for these 4:
- Application ID: 12 characters 4.
- Passport number 4.
- The security image (captcha) shown on the page 4.
The wording "GRANTED" means the e-Visa ETA has been approved. Confirm it before you travel, carry a printed ETA, and show it at the Immigration check post, where the e-Visa is stamped 2. "Invalid Captcha" means you typed the security image wrongly 4. A message saying no record was found means the portal has no match for those details, so recheck the ID and passport number 4. The official page does not publish other status wordings or refusal reasons 2.
Have your 12-character Application ID and your passport number ready for the status check on this page.
