Last checked against official sources on
Malawi takes visa applications online through its e-Visa portal, run by the Department of Immigration and Citizenship Services 12. The FAQ says e-Visa applications are processed within three working days 2.
Which rule applies to Bangladesh
A public notice effective 24 February 2026 splits countries into two categories 2. Nationals of Category Two countries can get a visa on arrival 2. Nationals of Category One countries must get a visa or prior authorization before they leave home 12. The lists are linked from the portal, but their contents could not be read, so it is not confirmed which category Bangladesh is in 1. The portal strongly encourages applying online before departure 1.
What you enter and pay
The form asks for traveller details that match your passport data page, travel details, a photograph and other documents 2. You then pay the visa fee and a convenience fee online by card 2. Scanned documents are required, not photos taken with a camera 2. The listed e-Visa fees are 2:
- transit: US$50 2
- single entry: US$50 2
- multiple entry, 6 months: US$150 2
- multiple entry, 12 months: US$250 2
E-visa fees are not refundable. The department also reserves the right not to give reasons if it rejects an application 2.
Checking status
The FAQ says you can check your application on the portal's "Check Status of Visa" page 3. Approval letters appear in your e-visa account and are sent as an email access link 23. The status page asks you to log in with the email and password of your e-Visa account and a captcha 3.
The portal pages read do not describe a student visa. Ask the department before you apply. Keep your e-Visa account login ready for the status check on this page.
