South Africa study visa from Bangladesh: VFS New Delhi and DHA-1738
Last checked against official sources on
"All applicants from Bangladesh and Nepal must apply to the VFS Centre in New Delhi," according to the South African High Commission in New Delhi 1. VFS is the private company that collects applications for the government. The High Commission "does not accept visa applications directly", except for diplomatic and official passports 1.
What a study visa asks for
The New Delhi page does not list study visa documents 1. The High Commission in Canberra publishes a checklist, which shows what the study visa usually needs, though VFS New Delhi's list may differ 2:
- confirmation of acceptance from a South African institution, since you can only apply once you have it
- form DHA-1738, completed and signed
- a machine-readable passport valid 30 days past your stay with three blank pages; manually extended passports are not accepted
- proof of funds and medical cover for the whole study period
- police clearance from each country you lived in for 12 months or more after age 18, in the last 5 years
- a medical certificate, and a yellow fever certificate if you passed through the yellow fever belt
- a letter from the institution giving the course length, with an undertaking to confirm registration within 60 days 2
The same checklist allows optional permission for part-time work of up to 20 hours a week during term 2.
After you submit
The High Commission says "All queries should be directed to the applicable VFS Centre where the application was submitted", and gives Infoza.india@vfshelpline.com 1.
Keep the VFS reference from the day of submission ready for the status check above.
