Tanzania student eVisa: fees, 10-day processing and the portal
Last checked against official sources on
Tanzania handles student visas online. You apply on the Tanzania eVisa portal, and the Tanzania Immigration Services Department decides, with a stated aim of processing within ten days 1. The one exception is the "Referral" visa category, which is not covered by that ten-day line 1.
Who the student visa is for
The student visa covers academic purposes: research, internships, volunteering, exchange students and prospective students admitted to registered institutions in Tanzania 1. People from countries that do not need a visa use a Student Pass instead 1.
What you need and what it costs
The portal asks for a copy of the biographic page of your valid passport and a covering letter from the host institution. The letter must say what the course or field is and how long the programme lasts 1.
The fee depends on the category and duration, and is USD 50, 250 or 550 1. For a student visa, it is USD 50 for programmes of up to 90 days and USD 250 for programmes longer than 90 days 1.
After you apply
The portal emails you to say whether the application was accepted or rejected. You can also track it on the portal and download the Visa Grant Notice there 1. The portal does not show its status wording in the guidelines, so read the exact words on your own screen.
If your visa is not processed in the stated time, the portal advises writing to info@immigration.go.tz 1.
One gap: the portal guidelines do not say whether Bangladeshis can also apply through a High Commission or consulate, so use the eVisa portal as your route.
Have your User Identification Number from the application ready when you use the status check above 1.
