Thailand ED PLUS student visa from Bangladesh: Dhaka embassy and VFS
Last checked against official sources on
Bangladeshi students apply to the Royal Thai Embassy in Dhaka, at 18 & 20 Madani Avenue, Baridhara, Dhaka-1212, and the embassy decides 12. The Thailand Visa Application Centres, run by VFS Global in Bangladesh, receive applications and pass them to the embassy. The embassy reserves the right to deny a visa without giving reasons 2. Embassy office hours are Sunday to Thursday, 09:00-13:00 and 14:00-17:00 1.
Which visa
The embassy's visa page lists a Non-Immigrant "ED PLUS" visa for education, dated 26 August 2024 1. The detail behind its "Read more" link could not be read, so the document list below comes from the VFS checklist for the one-year Non-Immigrant ED visa (single or multiple entry), not from ED PLUS itself 3.
Documents on the VFS ED checklist
- A completed, signed application form 3.
- A passport valid for at least six months, or 18 months for a one-year visa application 3.
- Photocopies of passport pages 1-5, plus the last Thai visa page and renewal page if you have them 3.
- Two passport-sized photos (3.5x4.5 cm) taken within six months 3.
- Proof of money: a current bank solvency certificate and six months of bank statements. The minimum is 20,000 Baht per person and 40,000 Baht per family, or 60,000 Taka per person and 120,000 Taka per family. Only originals are accepted 3.
- A copy of your air ticket, booking confirmation or itinerary 3.
- An acceptance letter from the school, university or institution, signed by the responsible authority 3.
- Your last educational certificate, certified by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs 3.
- A sponsorship letter with a bank statement, with the trade licence attached if it is a company statement 3.
- A visa request letter and an invitation letter 3.
- A letter of approval from Thailand's Ministry of Education, available in some cases 3.
Documents in other languages, including Bangla, must be translated into English and certified by a credible translator and a notary public. Consular officers may ask for more documents 3. For the one-year ED visa, you need the Royal Thai Embassy's prior approval before you pay the visa fee 3. The fee amounts were not found.
How long it takes
The VFS general guidelines say a single-entry visa normally takes 5 working days if applied for in Dhaka, 7 in Chittagong and 8 in Sylhet. Multiple-entry and group visas take 5 more working days for checking and approval before payment. They advise applying at least 3 to 4 weeks before departure 2. This guidance dates from 2018 (the PDF was created on 1 November 2018), so treat the timings as old and confirm them with VFS or the embassy 2.
Checking your application
The guidelines say the Thailand Visa Application Centres website shows the status of applications lodged at the centres 24. We could not read the tracking page, so what it asks for and what wording it shows is not confirmed.
Thailand also runs an e-Visa site at thaievisa.go.th 5. Whether a Bangladeshi student must use it was not confirmed.
Have your application receipt from the visa centre ready for the status check above.
