Gambia for Bangladeshi students: visa and clearance, then Resident Permit A and its fees
Last checked against official sources on
The Gambia Immigration Department lists Bangladesh under "Countries that need both visa and clearance" for Asia and the Middle East 1. Entry clearance is an approval you must hold before you travel 1. It is valid for 30 days, you carry a copy, and the host in the Gambia must present the original on or before your arrival 1.
Where to apply and who decides
Applications go to Gambian embassies, missions and consulates abroad, or you can get a visa on arrival at Gambian ports of entry 1. No Gambian mission in Bangladesh was found. The pages we read do not say which mission accepts Bangladeshi applications or what the visa fee is 1. The Gambia Immigration Department decides, and final entry authority rests with immigration officers at the port of arrival 1.
The entry requirements page also lists a Securiport fee of D1000 (about USD 20) on arrival and on departure. It says this fee is not mandated by the Gambia Immigration Department 2.
The student permit
The short visit visa, for up to 90 days, is meant for bona fide businessmen or tourists who live in the country where they apply, hold a return ticket and have adequate funds. A student stay is not covered by this category 1.
Foreign students get Resident Permit A, which is also issued to retirees and others who are not working. You get it after admission to the Gambia 3. The listed documents are 3:
- passport
- a document establishing status and identity
- an attestation from your embassy or high commission
- the prior year's residential permit, for renewals only
Fees for non-ECOWAS nationals are D5,700 for the permit, plus D2,500 for the Alien Card. The Alien Card fee is non-refundable and both amounts are subject to change 3. Non-ECOWAS nationals must stay in the Gambia up to 56 days after admission before the permit can be issued 3.
The pages do not say how a foreign student obtains entry clearance, and they give no student-specific visa document list. Ask your university and the department.
No online tracker is recorded for the Gambia, so the status check on this page cannot look up a case. Keep your entry clearance copy and passport details ready if you contact the department.
