Antigua and Barbuda for Bangladeshi students: the eVisa is tourism only, study needs a permit
Last checked against official sources on
Antigua and Barbuda's online eVisa is granted only for tourism 2. A student needs a separate student permit, and it must be approved before you arrive: "Application for a student permit must be approved prior to the non-immigrant's arrival into Antigua and Barbuda" 3. A visitor may not change status to student after arriving 3.
Do you need a visa?
Bangladesh is not on the Immigration Department's list of countries exempt from visas. The page says citizens of countries not on its lists "require a visa" 1. There is no visa on arrival: "Arriving without a visa constitutes an undocumented traveler" 2. You can apply for a visa through an overseas mission, and the eVisa is an alternative to that for people whose travel document needs a visa 2.
The student permit
Non-immigrant students need the permit to attend an educational institution. It is usually granted for one year at a time and renewed every year 3. The Immigration Department lists these documents 3:
- the application form for the student visa
- an acceptance letter from the Ministry of Education
- an acceptance letter from the school
- your passport, and your parents' or guardians' passports
- proof of financial support
- a health certificate and birth certificate
- one passport-size photo
If you apply for the eVisa
For the eVisa, an email with the decision is sent within seven working days of applying. The department advises applying at least seven working days before departure, and faster processing costs extra 2. The eVisa asks for a passport valid at least six months from arrival and a 45mm x 35mm photo. Students add the school's acceptance letter, details of where they will stay, and bank statements for the previous two months. A police record and birth certificate may also be requested 4.
You pay by Mastercard or Visa card with 3D Secure that is open to international payments. The fee is a non-refundable processing fee 2.
The pages I used do not say which mission serves Bangladesh, and give no fee or timeline for the student permit. Keep your eVisa or permit application reference ready when you use the status check on this page.
