Barbados visa for Bangladeshi students: visit rules, student visa and timelines
Last checked against official sources on
The Barbados Ministry of Foreign Affairs visa list of August 2022 shows "No visa required" for Bangladesh, with the remark "Bangladeshi can stay for a maximum of six (6) months without a visa" 1. That list is from 2022, so check that it still applies before you rely on it. For study, you apply to the Immigration Department for a non-immigrant student visa before entering Barbados 4.
The student visa
The forms are H-1 to H-4 4. The documents named include:
- Form H-1, Certificate of Eligibility for Non-Immigrant Student Status, and Form H-2, Certificate by Non-Immigrant Student
- an original or notarised birth certificate
- two passport photos and a copy of the passport biodata page
- proof of financial support
- police certificates from each country you lived in for six months or more in the past three years
- an acceptance letter from a school registered with the Ministry of Education
- a timetable and course outline
- proof of accommodation 4
The fee is BDS $300, paid when you submit 4. Incomplete forms are not accepted, and neither are laminated or scanned police certificates 4.
How long it takes
For the initial student application (minors) you get written notification within 10 working days, and the final visa within 60 working days. A provisional visa may be approved for up to four months 4.
Entry visas
Where a visa is required, applications go to the Barbados Immigration Department, addressed to the Chief Immigration Officer, and an entry visa does not guarantee entry 2. The processing period is three weeks and updates are not given on applications 2. Fees listed are US$107.00 for a single entry and US$211.00 for multiple entry, but that page may predate the move to the online process 2. The Immigration home page says the entry visa process is now fully online 3, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs sends applicants to the portal at apps.immigration.gov.bb 5.
Checking status
The Immigration portal is a login page 6. The pages we read do not describe a status-tracking function on it, and the Immigration Department says it gives no updates during the three-week entry visa period 2. For a student visa, use the 10 and 60 working day marks above to know when to expect your written notice 4.
