Belize for Bangladeshi students: visa required, BZ$750 student permit and a 30-day entry limit
Last checked against official sources on
On this page
Bangladesh appears as "Bangladesh YES" under "Visa Required" on the Belize immigration eligibility table 1. The student permit fee for Bangladesh, Pakistan and Sri Lanka (grouped with India, Nepal, Thailand and Burma) is BZ$750.00. Other nationals pay BZ$200.00. These fees took effect on 1 May 2020, so check for changes 3.
Visa to enter, permit to study
Belize uses two documents: a Student Visa to enter, and a Student Permit to study 4. A visa allows a maximum of 30 days from the date of entry, and a longer stay needs an extension at an Immigration Office 1. For the same nationality group, visa fees are $750.00 for single entry (valid 6 months) and $1000.00 for multiple entry (valid 12 months) 5. The decision rests with the Ministry of Immigration, Governance & Labour 2.
Where to apply
Apply at the nearest Belizean diplomatic or consular mission if you live outside Belize. If you or your sponsor is already in Belize, apply at the Belmopan Headquarters Office 2. I found no official page saying which mission takes Bangladeshi applications.
Documents for the student permit
The immigration site lists 34:
- an official letter from the registered institution
- a letter of financial support signed by a Justice of the Peace, with a BZ$1.50 stamp
- two colour photos, 2 x 2 inches, white background, taken within the last 6 months
- a birth certificate, translated into English if needed
- a letter of authority from a parent if the parent is not in Belize
- a valid passport
- proof of Belizean identity or the sponsor's immigration status
- a recent bank statement or letter, if asked
- a job letter from the sponsor's employer
Visa requirements also ask for a passport valid for more than 6 months and a flight itinerary 6.
The permit itself
Apply for the permit at an Immigration Office. It is processed on submission and a Student Permit sticker goes in your passport 3. The pages I used do not say whether a university student needs the student visa before the permit, or give a visa processing time or status tracker. Ask the mission before you pay.
Keep your passport number and payment receipt ready for the status check on this page.
