Bahamas visa status from Bangladesh: no visit visa, Permit to Reside for study
Last checked against official sources on
Bangladesh appears on the Bahamas Immigration list of countries whose citizens do not need a Bahamian visa for a visit of up to three months or eight months, "as each individual agreement may dictate" 1. India, Nepal and Pakistan are on the visa-required list instead 1. The same page says "admittance is not automatic", the passport must be valid for at least six months, and visitors must not take paid work 1. A visitor can stay at most 8 months, which the immigration officer at the port of entry may change, and extensions come from the Department of Immigration 2.
Study: Permit to Reside
Students use a Permit to Reside 3. The Bahamas Immigration page lists "Attending school, college or university" as an eligible reason 3. You send:
- a letter of request to the Director of Immigration
- the completed application form with a $10 postage stamp
- an original medical certificate dated within 30 days
- a police certificate, if you are 14 or older
- two 2 x 2 inch photos and a copy of your passport biographical page
- two character references and a letter from a financial institution or a CPA statement
- the annual permit questionnaire
- for children, a school enrolment letter 3
The processing fee is $200.00 and is not refunded 3. Contact the Consultation Unit "within an 8 to 12 week period" for an update 3. First-time applicants should not be in the country while the application is processed 3.
The pages we read do not say whether a Bangladeshi student needs a visa before first entry. Ask the Bahamas Department of Immigration.
Visas for people who do need one
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of The Bahamas, Consular Division, issues Bahamian visas, always before travel 1. The Immigration page lists about 40 processing offices, including the Bahamian Consulate in New Delhi, India 1. A traveller who needs a visa and does not have one is refused leave to land 1.
Checking an eVisa application
The official Bahamas eVisa tracking page asks for four things 4: surname, given name(s), date of birth (picked from a date control) and the application number, which is 9 digits. If nothing matches, the page says "Your information could not be retrieved." 4 That means no application was found for those details. Check the 9 digits, or write to the Bahamas Visa Office at evisaoffice@bahamas.gov.bs 4.
Have your 9-digit application number and your date of birth ready for the check above this article.
