Canada study permit from Bangladesh: the 6-week figure, IRCC account and funds
Last checked against official sources on
On this page
IRCC, the Canadian immigration department, shows 6 weeks as the processing time for study permit applications from Bangladesh. The figure was current on 21 October 2026 1. It is an estimate from IRCC's own data, not a promise for your file.
Where you apply and who decides
You apply online to IRCC. IRCC strongly encourages online applications from Bangladesh. Paper is allowed only for a disability that prevents applying online, or for people holding certain non-national travel or identity documents 2.
IRCC lists visa application centres (VACs) in Dhaka, Chittagong and Sylhet 2. A VAC only handles submission and administrative tasks. It is run by a private company or international organisation and takes no part in decisions. Canadian migration officers at an IRCC office make every decision 3. IRCC's Bangladesh page does not say which office that is 2.
The study permit and what you need
The fee shown on the study permit page is CAN $150 4. The documents IRCC lists are 5:
- A letter of acceptance from a designated learning institution. This is always required, and post-secondary schools must validate it.
- A provincial or territorial attestation letter in most cases. Students going to Quebec need a Quebec Acceptance Certificate (CAQ) instead.
- A valid passport or travel document and two recent passport-size photos.
- Proof of funds. This is always required.
- A letter of explanation (recommended), a medical exam if required, and a police certificate if requested.
- For a child under 17 travelling without a parent or guardian, proof of care (a custodian).
How much money you must show
For a single student, IRCC sets first-year living costs at CAN $23,448 if you apply on or after 1 September 2026. This excludes tuition and transport. For applications from 1 January 2025 to 31 August 2026 it was CAN $22,895. Tuition is proven separately, for example with a receipt from the school 7.
Pay the biometrics fee with your application fees. Paying later may cause delays. If you need an eTA or a visa, it is issued with the study permit at no extra cost 2.
Checking your application
Sign in to your IRCC secure account with GCKey or a Sign-In Partner. If you applied online, use the account you applied with 6. The page asks whether you have received the acknowledgement of receipt (AOR) letter or email. It shows updates and messages for study permits and other applications 6. IRCC also lists a separate application status tracker that needs your UCI and application number and may give a more detailed timeline 6. IRCC does not list the exact status wording on a public page, so read what your own account says.
Numbers to read with care
IRCC's figures below are worldwide, not Bangladesh figures 8:
- 38% study permit approval rate for 2026 applications, as of 28 February 2026, with 9K permits approved.
- 51% temporary resident visa (visitor visa) refusal rate in 2025, against 54% in 2024 and 39% in 2023.
Most visitor visa refusals say the officer was "not satisfied the applicant would leave Canada at the end of their authorized stay" 8. Misrepresentation made up 7.1% of visitor visa refusals in 2025 and carries a five-year ban from entering Canada 8. These refusal figures are for visitor visas, not study permits.
Have your IRCC account login and your application number ready, then use the status check above.
