Panama student residence permit: documents and the B/.250 cheque
Last checked against official sources on
Panama's student route is a temporary residence permit for reasons of education (permiso temporal por razones de educacion), handled by the Servicio Nacional de Migracion 1.
The application needs a notarised power of attorney and application, three photographs, a certified passport copy, a criminal record certificate for adults, a health certificate and a sworn declaration of personal background 1. It also needs a certified cheque for B/.250.00 payable to the Tesoro Nacional 1.
From the school you need an admission letter, a copy of the tuition payment receipt, and a certification of the course length, shift and enrolled subjects 1. You must show means to pay: a scholarship, a financing statement or a bank letter 1. If someone else is responsible for you, a letter of responsibility is needed 1. Proof of your address is also listed 1.
The permit is for full-time regular study at centres recognised by the Ministry of Education, and you must enrol in all subjects of the study plan 1. Work is prohibited, except professional practice or internships the school requires 1. An extension repeats the documents, except the criminal record and the cheque, and adds the official credits of the previous year, which must be passed 1.
The migration site also lists an appointment for a visa stamped at a consulate 2. Its FAQ says travellers from visa-required countries need prior authorisation, a passport valid for at least three months, proof of funds of at least B/.500 and a booked exit 2. These tourist-entry rules are not the student permit. The sources do not say whether Bangladesh is a visa-required nationality or which Panamanian mission serves Bangladesh.
Keep your permit application reference ready for the status check above.
