Tonga student visa from Bangladesh: Immigration Division, fees and permits
Last checked against official sources on
On this page
Tonga decides visas at the Immigration Division of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Nuku'alofa, and applications are submitted there 1. Citizens of countries not on Tonga's visa-on-arrival list need a visa before they arrive 1. That list appears only as an image on the Invest in Tonga page, so we could not read whether Bangladesh is on it 1. No Tongan mission serving Bangladesh was found.
Contact and documents
The Ministry of Revenue and Customs says a visitor must get an entry permit from the Immigration Department before arriving. Pre-arrival applications go to the Immigration Division at tongapermit@gmail.com, +676 26 969, P.O. Box 360, Salote Road, Nuku'alofa 2. The documents listed are a completed form, a passport valid for 6 months beyond the stay, a recent photo, proof of accommodation, proof of sufficient funds and a return or onward ticket 2.
What a study applicant must show
The Immigration Regulations say an applicant who wants to enter to follow a course of study must give details of the exact nature of the study, any grants or fellowships, and their personal financial position 3. The fees in Schedule 3 are printed with a "$" sign and the currency is not stated: a study permit or extension is $200 per person per year for someone aged 18 or over and $50 per child per year under 18. A visitor's permit is $60 for 31 days or less 3. The edition we read dates from 2016, so confirm current fees with the Immigration Division.
What the Beijing embassy page says
Tonga's embassy in Beijing publishes a student visa page. It is the Beijing embassy's page and is not confirmed for Bangladesh. It describes a student visa issued for up to one year and renewable, for students aged 18 and younger going to a primary, secondary or tertiary school. It asks for written acceptance from the school, proof of fee payment, a sponsor or personal funds declaration and a completed form. The fee there is USD 57.50 and processing is normally a month 4.
