Cyprus student entry permit: your university applies for you

In Cyprus, you do not file the student application yourself. The higher education institution submits the entry permit application to the Civil Registry and Migration Department, and you can be abroad while it is submitted and examined 1. Two authorities examine it: the Migration Department and the Ministry of Education of Cyprus 1.
Rules for the application
You need acceptance from a higher education institution registered with the Cyprus Ministry of Education, for a full-time course that leads to a recognised qualification 1. Supporting documents must be officially translated and duly certified 1. The Migration Department page says proof of funds is set by the Ministers Council and does not state amounts 1.
You cannot be in Cyprus on a tourist or visiting visa when the application is submitted 1.
Timing
The page, posted 31 December 2025, says an entry permit for students is examined within one month if the application is duly completed, and longer if documents are insufficient. A residence permit is examined within 3 months if duly completed 1.
After you arrive, you have 7 days to register in the Aliens' Register and get a temporary residence permit, which includes biometrics (photo and fingerprints) and your signature 1.
Fees and permit length
The listed fees are EUR 70 for the entry permit and residence permit, EUR 140 for entry permit, residence permit and ARC (the alien registration certificate), EUR 125 for residence permit and ARC, EUR 55 for renewal, and EUR 70 for first registration in the Aliens' Register 1. A permit is valid for up to one year and is renewable until your studies are completed 1.
Work and refusals
Students may work outside study time, up to 20 hours a week, or 38 hours when classes are interrupted, with a contract approved by a District Labour Office 1. The student legislation sets reasons for rejection, withdrawal or non-renewal, and a permit is not renewed after a change of programme or institution if the change is made to avoid the academic progress rules, or if the Ministry of Education does not recommend the transfer 1.
Short-stay visa numbers
The European Commission lists Cyprus short-stay (Schengen type C) visas by consulate. For 2025, the Cyprus consulate in New Delhi had 3,950 applications, issued 3,484 and did not issue 466, about 12 per cent 2. These figures cover all nationalities and all purposes. They are not Bangladesh-specific and they are not student entry permits 2.
Decision letters
The page names no online tracker. On approval, you receive a notice to collect the residence permit, and on rejection a letter with the reasons 1.
Check the status above against the notice or letter you receive from the Migration Department.
