Estonia D-visa for Bangladeshi students: why Dhaka is not the place to apply
Last checked against official sources on
Estonia's long-stay (D) visa cannot be applied for at representing embassies, including the one in Dhaka. Bangladeshi applicants use the Embassy of Estonia in New Delhi, by online appointment 1.
Which embassy does what
Estonia is represented in Dhaka by the German Embassy, but only for short-stay Schengen visas 1. For a D-visa or a residence permit, the New Delhi embassy decides, and appointments are required for both 1. The Estonian foreign ministry adds a general rule: where no Estonian office handles long-stay visas in your country, apply to an accredited representation or the nearest Estonian office that issues visas, with the appointment confirmed in advance 2. It is not confirmed whether any visa centre in Dhaka collects D-visa files.
What the D-visa needs
The Estonian foreign ministry lists 2:
- A valid passport, a completed application form and a photo.
- Travel medical insurance.
- Proof of sufficient funds, including income evidence for the three months before you apply.
- Documents showing the purpose of the trip, such as proof of study in Estonia.
- A travel ticket booking or other proof of travel arrangements.
- Fingerprints at submission.
The visa fee is EUR 120, and EUR 60 for children aged 6 to 11, listed as the "State fee for the examination of visa applications" 2. The New Delhi embassy lists a temporary residence permit fee of 115 EUR 3.
Timing
The New Delhi embassy gives 7 to 15 working days for applications lodged there. The figure is filed under visitor visas, and no student-specific time is published 1. No public status tracker was found.
Schengen numbers for Dhaka
Estonia has no Dhaka row in the 2024 EU statistics file. The German consulate in Dhaka covers Estonia for Schengen visas, and its row has 5,933 applications, 3,303 issued and 2,539 not issued, a not-issued share of about 43%. These are short-stay (type C) visas of all purposes, and the row includes every state Germany represents, so it is not a student-visa or Estonia-only figure 4.
Book your New Delhi appointment first, and keep the passport and study documents together for it.
