Hungary student residence permit from Bangladesh: 60-day decision and the Dhaka Office

For study, Hungary issues a residence permit for the purpose of studies with a D-type entry visa. The National Directorate-General for Aliens Policing decides it in Hungary 1. You lodge the application at a Hungarian mission in your country of nationality or habitual residence, and you do not need a separate visa application 1. The decision is due within 60 days of submission, with a 15-day procedural administration period. Time spent fixing missing documents is not counted 1.
Where Bangladeshis go
The Dhaka Office of the Embassy of Hungary in New Delhi is at Concord I-K Tower, Plot 2, Block CEN(A), North Avenue / Madani Avenue, Dhaka 1212, and reception is by appointment only 3. Hours are Monday to Wednesday 09:30 to 12:30 and 13:30 to 16:30, and Sunday 09:30 to 12:30 3. The supervising mission is the Embassy of Hungary in New Delhi 3. The Dhaka Office contact is consulate.dac@mfa.gov.hu 2.
We could not confirm that the Dhaka Office accepts study applications. The embassy's D-visa page says appointments go to appointment.del@mfa.gov.hu and that applications for residents of India, Bhutan, the Maldives, Nepal and Sri Lanka are lodged at the VFS office in New Delhi. It does not name Bangladesh 2. Ask the Dhaka Office which route applies to you.
Documents
The student permit factsheet lists 1:
- a certificate of admission from the educational institution and a document verifying student status
- proof of the language knowledge needed for the studies
- proof of payment of tuition fees
- proof of subsistence: a bank statement, notarised family support declaration, employer or tax document, or scholarship certificate
- proof of health insurance or the ability to cover health costs
- a valid passport and a ticket or funds for travel out of Hungary
- one facial photograph
- the completed form, with a real Hungarian accommodation address declared
After approval
An approved D visa from an application lodged abroad is single entry, allows a stay of no more than 30 days, and is valid for 3 months 1. The student residence permit is mailed to the educational establishment, and its validity is at least 1 year and at most 3 years 1.
Employment D visas are a different matter
Under Government Decree 450/2024, employment D visas may be approved only for citizens of listed countries. The embassy says Bangladesh is not among them and will not give appointments for employment D visas for an indefinite period 2. Study is not mentioned as affected 2.
Checking your case
The embassy does not answer emails about the status of a D visa case, because the Hungarian aliens policing authority decides and the embassy tells clients when the decision arrives 2. If you want to appeal, you must do so within 8 calendar days, only at the competent Hungarian mission 2.
The embassy names no tracker. The VFS Global tracker for Hungary asks for two things: the application reference number, from your VFS receipt, and your last name as in your passport 4. It also asks you to type a security image 4. The pages we read do not confirm a VFS centre in Dhaka for Hungary, so the tracker may not find your case 2. The embassy decides, not VFS, so a "ready for collection" message is not an approval 2. A reply of "The verification words are incorrect." means you typed the security image wrongly 4. "Invalid Inputs." means VFS rejected the format, so copy the number exactly as printed on the receipt 4. Messages about no matching record mean it found nothing for those details 4.
If you hold a VFS receipt, keep the reference number and your passport surname ready for the status check on this page.
