Ireland study visa from Bangladesh: post your file to New Delhi
Last checked against official sources on
On this page
The embassy page lists no Irish visa office in Dhaka. Applications from Bangladesh are decided by the Embassy of Ireland in New Delhi (the New Delhi Visa Office), and the embassy lists a separate Bangladesh process 1.
How the Bangladesh process works
You create the application form on AVATS Online, print and sign it, then post the documents to the Embassy in New Delhi 1. You can also send them to a third-party agent in Kolkata who can lodge at VFS Kolkata 1. No biometrics are captured for Bangladesh residents 1. The embassy keeps your passport until it decides 1.
The fee is stated in Indian rupees, and for Bangladesh it is paid by posting an INR demand draft made out to the Embassy of Ireland. The page names Sonali Bank, BRAC Bank and Pubali Bank as sources of INR demand drafts 1. The study visa fee itself was not checked on that page, so confirm the amount with the embassy.
What to post
The Irish Immigration Service guide for a long-term study visa lists these documents: the signed and dated Summary Application Form with the fee, your passport, passport photographs, private medical insurance, an application letter, your visa refusal history, a letter of acceptance, an explanation of any gaps in your education, evidence of academic ability, evidence of English (or Irish) language ability, and evidence of finances 3.
Three rules on the paperwork 3:
- Send original documents. Photocopies are not accepted except where the guide says so.
- A document that is not in English or Irish needs a certified translation.
- Files on USB sticks or file-sharing platforms are not accepted.
You must post the documents within 30 days of creating your application on AVATS 3.
How long it takes
For study applications processed in New Delhi, the embassy gives 4 to 8 weeks for a first decision and 6 calendar months for an appeal decision 2. These are "usual timeframes" and "not guaranteed" 2. The count runs from receipt of your application at the embassy to the date of decision, so it leaves out the time to get a VFS appointment, document transit from VFS and delivery after the decision 2.
A study notice on the same page says applications submitted less than 3 weeks before the course start date cannot be guaranteed a decision, and that the Visa Office will not respond to status-update requests 2.
Checking whether a decision is made
Each morning at about 11:00 Indian time, the New Delhi office publishes a list of visa outcomes for the year up to the previous day 2. You search the list for your visa application reference number 2. The list shows whether a decision has been made 2.
Appeals
From 1 June 2026, refusals of short-stay visa applications can no longer be appealed, except under the EU Free Movement Directive, and a refused applicant must submit a new application on AVATS 2. That change is stated for short-stay visas, not for study visas 2.
Keep your visa application reference number ready to look it up in the decision list.
