Italy student visa from Dhaka: the 30 November deadline and VFS booking

The Embassy of Italy in Dhaka has set 30 November 2026 as the last day to submit student visa applications for university pre-enrolment 1. The notice is dated 10 June 2026 1. It writes the date as "Thursday, 30th November 2026", but 30 November 2026 is a Monday, and the Bengali text of the notice says Monday 1. Treat the English weekday as a typo and confirm the date with the embassy.
How you get an appointment
Italy does not ask you to find an appointment yourself. Students who registered on Universitaly are contacted by VFS Global, by email, at the address used on Universitaly, and book the appointment from there 1. VFS Global is the company that takes in applications for the embassy. The Embassy of Italy in Dhaka makes the decision 1. If you have registered on Universitaly and no email arrives, check the address you entered there first.
What the Dhaka checklist asks for
The visa is a national "D-type" visa for study, for university pre-enrolment 2. The checklist includes 2:
- the signed D-type application form, in English or Italian
- one recent photo, 3.5 x 4.0 cm, white background, taken in the last 6 months
- a passport with at least 2 blank visa pages, plus a copy of the bio pages
- the pre-enrolment receipt downloaded from Universitaly, showing enrolment and tuition fees
- a Declaration of Value already issued by the Dhaka embassy (or the receipt showing you applied for it), or a verifiable CIMEA certificate
- a language certificate for the course language
The checklist gives passport validity two ways. The English text says at least 3 months after the visa's validity ends. The Italian text says at least 3 months after the planned departure from the Schengen area 2. Ask the embassy which one applies to you.
The language rule is B2 or higher for Italian or other European languages, or IELTS 6 or higher for English, issued no more than two years before the visa application unless the university has already verified it on Universitaly 2. For English, the checklist accepts only IELTS 2. Certificates must come from globally recognised institutes or universities and must show oral comprehension, written comprehension, speaking and writing results 2.
Money and sponsors
You need a personal bank statement from any bank in Bangladesh covering the last 12 months, other proof that you can pay your way, and money for repatriation, which a return ticket can show 2. A sponsor must be your parents, an Italian or foreign national legally residing in Italy, or a recognised Italian institution or foreign authority, and the sponsor also gives 12 months of bank statements from a bank in Bangladesh 2. Where relevant you add proof of the family tie, for example a birth certificate apostilled by Bangladesh's Ministry of Foreign Affairs 2. A separate embassy notice says financial guarantees can come from you, parents, grandparents, siblings, uncles and aunts, or cousins, who may live in Italy or be Italian citizens 1. The two documents list sponsors differently, so confirm who qualifies before you ask a relative.
Reading the Schengen numbers
The European Commission publishes short-stay Schengen (type C) visa figures by consulate, for all purposes. They are not Italian student (D-type) visa figures 3. For Italy's Dhaka consulate:
- 2024: 5,157 applied for, 1,757 issued, 3,369 not issued. That is 3,369 of 5,157, about 65% 3.
- 2025: 6,521 applied for, 2,573 issued, 3,948 not issued, about 61% 3.
For comparison, Italy's New Delhi consulate in 2024 had 16,783 applied for and 3,127 not issued, about 19% 3. These figures say nothing certain about a student application, which goes through a different process.
Italy's Dhaka pages do not publish a processing time or a list of status wordings.
Have your Universitaly pre-enrolment details and VFS booking email to hand when you use the status check above.
