Liechtenstein student visa from Bangladesh: Swiss embassy in Dhaka
Last checked against official sources on
On this page
The Embassy of Switzerland in Dhaka publishes one checklist for the student visa (national visa D) for both Switzerland and Liechtenstein. The version read is dated 5 January 2026 1. Switzerland has looked after Liechtenstein's interests abroad since 1919 3. A visa D is a long-stay visa: study of more than 90 days needs a permit from the national authorities 1.
How to apply
Book an appointment first by emailing dhaka.visa@eda.admin.ch, then hand in the documents in person. The embassy forwards them to the authority that decides 1. Bring the originals plus two extra sets of A4 photocopies. Documents in Bengali need an official translation into English, German, French or Italian 1. The visa processing fee is free of charge 1.
Documents on the checklist
- three visa D application forms, each with a photo under six months old, and one extra photo 1
- passport valid at least three months beyond departure, with two blank pages, copies of all visas and any previous passports 1
- apostilled academic certificates, a CV and proof of any work 1
- a signed personal letter on why you chose this study, your plans afterwards, your promise to leave after the course, and your accommodation 1
- the school's acceptance letter confirming tuition is paid, with the bank statement 1
- your sponsor's written confirmation, six months of bank statements, the sponsor's ID, proof of your relationship and three years of tax return receipts 1
- an English test such as IELTS or TOEFL, with the school's confirmation that you passed its language test; the embassy may test you itself 1
- a police clearance under six months old and proof of family bonds such as birth certificates and NID 1
How long it takes and checking progress
The decision takes about three months. Once you have the cantonal authorisation, bring a copy with your passport to your appointment, and the embassy issues the visa within 5 days 1. The embassy does not answer questions about the progress of an application 1. After arrival, register with the residents' registration office within 14 days 1.
Short-stay numbers
Short Schengen (type C) visa forms are filled in at swiss-visa.ch 2. European Commission data for 2024 shows Switzerland's Dhaka consulate received 1,238 short-stay applications for all purposes, issued 984 and did not issue 241, about 19%. These are not student visa figures and do not separate Liechtenstein 4.
Since the embassy gives no progress updates, keep your appointment confirmation and any reference from the cantonal authority ready for the status check on this page.
