Monaco visa from Bangladesh: why the French consulate decides and how to track it
Last checked against official sources on
Monaco has no separate student permit. French consular authorities decide the visa, and the Monegasque Residency Section (Police) decides the residence permit 12.
How the process works
For a short stay, non-EEA nationals need a Schengen visa requested from the embassy of the Schengen country where they enter Europe 2. For a stay over three months, you request a long-stay visa (type D) for Monaco through the French consulate closest to your most recent place of residence 2. After that, anyone aged 16 or over staying more than three months a year needs a Monegasque residence permit 1.
A visa is needed before you apply for the permit. In exceptional cases, a foreigner already in Monaco with accommodation can ask the Ministry of the Interior for permission to apply directly to the French Embassy in Monaco 1.
The permit application asks for 1:
- The type D visa.
- Proof of accommodation in Monaco large enough for those living there.
- Proof of enough money, such as salary, savings or support from a relative or partner.
- A criminal record under 3 months old from your last country of residence in the five years before arrival.
- Proof of student status.
- A sworn translation of documents not in French, English or Italian.
The fee for a first residence permit is 80 euros, and a temporary card valid for one year may be issued after you submit the application 1.
The European Commission publishes no Schengen consulate statistics row for Monaco, because Monaco is not listed as a Schengen State there 3. We do not confirm whether Bangladeshis lodge the French visa at the French visa centre in Dhaka, or its fees and times.
How to check your status
French consulates issue Monaco visas 2, so if you handed your application to a VFS centre, the VFS Global tracker for France is the one to use. It asks for 4:
- Application reference number, from your VFS receipt 4.
- Last name, as in your passport 4.
- The captcha (picture code) shown on the page 4.
French consular authorities decide the visa 2, so a message about being ready for collection is not an approval. The pages we read do not give the tracker's status wording, so read each message exactly as VFS shows it.
Have your VFS receipt and passport open for the status check above.
