Romania's long-stay study visa, symbol D/SD, is resolved within at most 30 days from the moment you appear at the Romanian mission 1.
Applying through E-Viza
You complete an online file in E-Viza, the foreign ministry (MAE) system, and send it to the Romanian diplomatic mission or consular office you choose in the file 4. Apply at least 2 weeks and not more than 3 months before you plan to travel. The 30-day period counts from the date you appear at the mission. Supporting documents should be translated into Romanian or English by an authorised translator, and you present them in original and copy when you lodge in person 4. We could not confirm which mission covers applicants in Bangladesh.
The fee for a long-stay visa (D) sent through E-Viza from 27 April 2026 is EUR 300. Applications sent before that date paid EUR 120. Fees are collected in EUR, USD or local currency, and an unpaid fee makes the application inadmissible 3.
Documents
The official list for study includes 2:
- Two recent colour photographs, 3 x 4.
- A passport valid at least 3 months beyond the visa and issued in the last 10 years.
- Proof of acceptance to study from the Ministry of Education, for full-time study at an accredited state or private higher education institution.
- Proof you paid tuition for at least one year.
- Proof of means of living at least equal to the national gross minimum monthly wage for the whole visa period.
- A criminal record certificate or equivalent.
- Travel medical insurance for the visa period, with cover of at least EUR 30,000, valid in all Schengen member states.
- Proof of accommodation.
- Proof of language knowledge for the programme, except for the Romanian preparatory year for foreign citizens.
- Parental or guardian consent if you are a minor.
After the visa
The long-stay visa is granted for 90 days. You extend your right to stay with a residence permit from the General Inspectorate for Immigration, applied for in person at least 30 days before the approved stay ends 1.
If it is refused
First you must send a prior complaint within 30 days of the refusal form being communicated. Then you can go to court within 6 months of the reply, and no later than 1 year from the refusal 1.
A number from New Delhi, and its limits
The European Commission's 2024 Schengen statistics for the Embassy of Romania in New Delhi show 1,563 uniform (short-stay Schengen type C) visas applied for, 1,154 issued and 402 not issued, all nationalities and all purposes. Romania is counted from 31 March 2024, so the figures cover part of the year 5. That makes 402 of 1,563, or about 26 percent, not issued. It is not a student-visa refusal rate and it is not a Bangladesh figure.
How to check your status
The E-Viza portal says you receive an email when your application is resolved 4. We did not read a status lookup page.
Keep the email address you used in E-Viza open for the status check above, because the notice arrives there.
