Check your Swedenvisa application status.

For a degree in Sweden you apply for a residence permit for studies at higher education. The Swedish Migration Agency, Migrationsverket, decides it ¹. You apply online in its e-service. A paper application is handed in at a Swedish embassy or consulate-general in the country where you live ¹.

Money and conditions

• You need final admission to full-time studies, and the tuition fee must be paid first ¹.
• You must show funds of at least SEK 10,656 per month if you apply in 2026 ¹.
• For studies shorter than a year you need health insurance that covers the whole stay ¹.
• The application fee is SEK 1,500 for adults, and it is not refunded if you are rejected ¹. The Dhaka embassy's fee list of 11 June 2024 shows BDT 14,800 for SEK 1,500. Check the current amount ⁴.

Fingerprints and photo

If you need a visa to enter Sweden, you must book an embassy appointment to give fingerprints and a photo for the permit card. Otherwise a digital passport check through an app is used ¹. The Dhaka embassy's own page on studying is dated 7 June 2020 and is outdated ³. We could not confirm whether VFS handles these appointments in Dhaka.

Waiting time and tracking

Migrationsverket says a first-time higher education permit takes 3 months. Of recently decided cases, 75 percent were decided within that time, counting cases decided in the last 12 months ². This is the global figure, not one for Bangladesh. Log in to My Page to follow your case. For applications through the e-service, an email tells you whether the permit was granted or rejected ¹⁵. The page does not list the wording of statuses ¹.

Dhaka Schengen numbers

These are short-stay Schengen (type C) visas at the Swedish consulate in Dhaka, all purposes and all nationalities, not study permits. In 2024 there were 17,917 applications, 5,588 issued (880 multiple-entry) and 11,639 not issued ⁶. That is about 65 percent not issued (11,639 of 17,917) ⁶. A study permit is a different decision made by a different body, so do not read this as your odds.
